Onthutsend: Verdrag van Lissabon begin van EU-dictatuur!
Wat is er aan de hand? Maandenlang is er protest in het EU-parlement door MPs en wij horen daar niets van in de media? Tachtig MPs roepen boe en zwaaien met spandoeken in de zaal op 12 december 2007 in een uiterste poging om onze democratie te redden. Waarom hebben de mainstreammedia weer zitten slapen, terwijl we met z'n allen afstevenen op een complete dictatuur in Europa? Waarom vond de Nederlandse regering het nodig dat er geen referendum zou komen over het Verdrag van Lissabon, oftewel het nieuwe Europese Verdrag?
Ooit nette Europarlementariërs met spandoeken en in 'referendum'-T-shirtjes aan het werk gezien? Hebben we ze ooit uit grond van hun hart kwaad gezien? Wat is er aan de hand in Brussel en Straatsburg? Het wordt tijd dat de mainstreammedia hier ook over gaan berichten. Kijk en huiver!

Iers referendum wordt spannend
Latest Polls Show No-35%, Yes-30% and Don't Know-35%
The latest Irish Times/TNS MRBI Poll has shown that the No voters in Ireland has risen by 17 points up to 35% while the Yes voters have declined by 5 points down to 30%. 7% of those polled decided not to vote while the number of undecided is still very high at 28% and nothing is sure for either side. Het Iers referendum over het Verdrag van Lissabon wordt een dubbeltje op zijn kant. Op zes dagen voor het referendum geeft een peiling in de Irish Times aan dat de tegenstanders in de meerderheid zijn. Kersvers premier Brian Cowen verdedigde het verdrag vrijdag.
Volgens een peiling van het onderzoeksinstituut TNS MRBI, die op dinsdag en woensdag bij (amper) duizend mensen werd afgenomen, zouden de tegenstanders van het Europese Verdrag kunnen rekenen op 35 procent van de stemmen.
De voorstanders zouden 30 procent halen, een daling met 5 procent ten aanzien van de laatste peiling drie weken geleden. Van de ondervraagden zegt 28 procent nog geen keuze te hebben gemaakt.
In een reactie op de Ierse radio zei Cowen, die een goede maand geleden de fakkel overnam van de ontslagnemende Bertie Ahern, vrijdag dat de belangrijkste argumenten die door de neen-campagne naar voren worden gebracht geen steek houden. Hij beschuldigde de campagne ervan angst, achterdocht en verwarring te zaaien.
Het Verdrag van Lissabon, in feite een afgezwakte versie van de Europese Grondwet, werd op 13 december 2007 ondertekend door de 27 staatshoofden en regeringsleiders van de Europese Unie.
Vooraleer het begin volgend jaar van kracht kan worden, moet het door alle Europese lidstaten worden geratificeerd. Dat is intussen in vijftien lidstaten gebeurd. Ierland is de enige EU-lidstaat die een referendum over het Europees Verdrag organiseert. Het land is daartoe grondwettelijk verplicht.
In België moet het verdrag geratificeerd worden door alle parlementen. Kamer en Senaat hebben dat al gedaan, maar de deelstaatparlementen nog niet.

Alstublieft, stem NEE tegen dit Verdrag voor mij
Vermits Ierland het enige land is waar een referendum over het Verdrag van Lissabon wordt gehouden, wordt de Ieren impliciet een mandaat gegeven voor diegenen die niet mogen stemmen. Alleen al het feit dat de EU-burgers niet mogen stemmen over het verdrag dat hun leven zal bepalen, is genoeg om de Ieren te steunen om nee te stemmen.

Ik verwerp dit Verdrag als ondemocratisch in idee en inhoud. Alstublieft, stem NEE tegen dit Verdrag voor mij, als een eerste stap om te bouwen aan een gemeenschappelijk sociaal, ecologisch, democratisch en vredelievend Europa.'

Poll shows Lisbon Treaty heading for shock defeat

The Lisbon Treaty is heading towards a shock defeat with the No side now in the lead, according to the findings of the latest Irish Times/TNS MRBI Poll.
It will take an unprecedented swing in the last week of the campaign for the Treaty to be carried.
The poll shows the number of people intending to vote No has almost doubled to 35 per cent (up 17 points) since the last poll three weeks ago, while the number of the Yes side has declined to 30 per cent (down 5 points).
The number of undecided voters is still a significant 28 per (down 12 points) cent, while 7 per cent won’t vote.
The massive increase by the No vote since the last poll has mainly come through gains among undecided voters but, even more ominously for the Yes side, it has lost some support to the No camp.
While the final outcome is still in the hands of undecided voters, the clear momentum is now with the No campaign, and it will take a dramatic shift in public attitudes over the next few days for the Yes side to win.
The swing to the No camp has not been prompted by domestic considerations, with just 5 per cent of those opposed to the Treaty saying they are influenced by a desire to protest against the Government.
The reason most often cited by No voters is that they don't know what they are voting for or they don’t understand the Treaty, with 30 per cent of No voters listing this as the main reason for their decision.
The poll was conducted last Tuesday and Wednesday among a representative sample of 1,000 voters in face-to-face interviews at 100 sampling points in all 43 constituencies. It was taken in the middle of the controversy over the World Trade Organisation talks.
That issue came to a head on Tuesday afternoon with the announcement by the Irish Farmers' Association that it would support a Yes vote following the declaration by the Taoiseach, Brian Cowen, that he would use the veto to block any deal unacceptable to Ireland if the issue was put to a vote.
The poll showed that farmers are opposed to the Treaty by 34 per cent to 31 per cent. The No majority among working class C2DE voters is much bigger with Labour voters shifting in large numbers from the Yes side. It indicates that opposition to the Treaty expressed by some trade unionists is having an impact.
In class terms, the Yes campaign is only ahead among better off ABC1 voters. Fianna Fáil voters continue to back the Treaty, but even in that category the No campaign has made massive strides in the past three weeks with a gain of 15 points to 25 per cent, while the proportion of Yes voters has fallen by five points to 42 per cent.
A clear majority of Fine Gael voters are now against the Treaty by 40 per cent to 30 per cent, while among Labour voters there has been a massive turnaround with the No side almost doubling its support to 47 per cent with 30 per cent of party supporters in favour.
Ironically, given the party's previous stance on the EU, the strong support for the Treaty comes from among Green Party supporters.
Sinn Féin voters are overwhelming in the No side in line with their party's position.

De elitaire EU die gedurende vijftig jaar is opgebouwd spreekt in onze naam over de mooie toekomst van Europa. Als wij onze toekomst aan de EU-elites overlaten, kan dat liedje nog tientallen jaren duren. Maar die illusie werkt niet meer. Tijd voor de Europeanen om hun zeg te hebben. Want net de historie van de EU-Grondwet toont niet alleen de bekende kloof tussen kiezer en verkozene. Doorheen verschillende kiesintenties in verschillende landen werd vooral de kloof blootgelegd tussen kiezen voor ideeën en kiezen voor bepaalde kandidaten, hun charme, hun charisma enzovoort. De toekomst van Europa hangt dus niet zozeer af van onze verkozenen, maar van de inbreng van het volk zelf. Vanaf het begin (de keuze van de Grondwetgevende Vergadering) als op het einde van het echte plan B (de referenda ter ratificatie van de Grondwet). De leden van de Grondwetgevende Vergadering kunnen dus niet zomaar hun eigen agenda volgen omdat hun keuze direct onderworpen wordt aan een referendum. Zij hebben er alle belang bij zo dicht mogelijk contact te onderhouden met diegenen die de nieuwe Grondwet moeten goed- of afkeuren.' (http://onzezeg.be)

Irish Embassy Events
The ERC together with local groups has helped to coordinate events in front of Irish embassies across Europe. The events and the messages varied from country to country, some held banners with slogans such as 'Congratulation Ireland! You are having the referendum 486 million Europeans have been denied' or 'Irish friends vote no for me' to 'On 12th June we are all Irish'. Some groups painted their faces and held balloons; others met the Irish Ambassador to their country and presented them with letters and flowers.
Together with Patricia McKenna Chairperson of the People's Movement we held a press conference on Friday 31st May. After a good turnout from the press the events were reported in the local press. Click on one of the links below to read the article.
